In contrast to all other Vectron POS systems, the POS-PC is not a proprietary POS system but ECR software for a PC with Windows-operating system.

While proprietary POS systems distinguish themselves by the combination of stability and low costs, the POS-PC offers the possibility to apply office-programs like MS-Excel or MS-Word, stock control systems or E-mail options at the point of sale. Although POS-PC and proprietary Vectron POS systems work on a different hardware basis, they can be networked. They provide the same functions, program routines and a uniform, exchangeable data format for PLUs, sales and other features. In addition to complementary programs, the POS-PC offers s higher screen resolution. A respective PC-hardware provided, additional selection keys and longer selection menus can be displayed simultaneously.

Although a PC-environment offers a number of advantages, problems may occur in practice. Experiences have proved that in many cases the available PC-based ECR hardware does not show the stability and robustness of proprietary systems that Vectron customers appreciate. In order to save costs, many suppliers of PC-cash registers apply hardware, which may be sufficient for an office PC but bears the typical susceptibility of the PC-technology. These systems are often not able to meet the high demands on a POS system in practice.
